The last few months have been pretty ground breaking in regards to equality.  Just now a bill that has successfully gone through the California Legislature is waiting for Governor Jerry Brown to put his hot little hand to pen and sign that thing into law.  AB1266 would be an incredible leap forward in ensuring equality and protection for all students who’s gender doesn’t match the gender they were assigned at birth. This bill when signed into law will be a beacon of non-discrimination for the whole country.  Please read this article written by Judy Molland who asked me what I thought about the importance of this bill.

Dina Martinez, Executive Director of Trans-Action, a group devoted to empowering transgender youth, explains:

“This bill is so important to galvanizing the dignity and protection of students.  The mere fact that most schools across our country are able to bar someone from using the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity is absolutely unacceptable.  This law will help diminish the “otherness” that most children feel and will provide trans and gender variant students with better opportunities to pursue their dreams in the future which is what all educators should be dedicated to facilitating.”

Thank you to the State of California for looking out for the best interest of our children and equality!  And to Gov. Jerry Brown, I urge you to sign this into law!!
