Q: Ana asks “Sometimes [transgender people ] look very male but in female clothes and on instinct I say something like ‘where did he, I mean she go?’ I know I’m supposed to only comment on the gender of what they are wearing but sometimes it’s hard to look at clothes and not face. Do u have advice for me in this situation?

A: I think the best advice I can give is to do your best to use pronouns that correspond with the gender the person presents (or according to the way they dress). It happens sometimes, pronouns slip. As long as there is a respectful person behind that slip it’s easier to deal with. I slip sometimes with cisgender people too. The biggest thing is respect and your sincere attempt to use the proper pronouns. An apologetic pronoun correction is fine.
